Biography

In her work, contemporary irish artist Debbie Chapman, explores several interconnecting themes: the essence of humanity, the narratives we construct for ourselves, and the profound influence we exert on one another, as well as our remarkable planet and other organisms that we share it with. She paints as a way of understanding and to start conversations that might make people think and reflect, hopefully in a kinder, gentler, more responsible way.

Debbie creates modern, contemporary artwork, incorporating acrylics, oils and elements of collage. Her practice is grounded in figurative expression, symbolism and abstraction. Organic shapes and bold blocks of brilliant colour collaborate with realism, striving to create harmony and balance that is reflective of nature itself.

Born in Co.Wexford, and having lived in London and Australia, Debbie now works from a studio in West Dublin. She exhibits internationally and has been commissioned for public, corporate and personal collections, such as The Hermitage Medical Centre, Waterford General Hospital, Dublin City Council and others. In 2023 she collaborated with U2's Adam Clayton to create an artwork for the "Elephant In The Room Project" in support of The Samaritans.
