Gormleys is delighted to present an exhibition by celebrated French artist Patrick Rubinstein.
‘An Ode to the Masters’ will feature a stunning collection of Rubinstein's recent works, which pay homage to the old and modern Masters including Klimt, Vermeer, Michelangelo, Matisse, Warhol and Frida Kahlo.
Born in Paris in 1960, Rubinstein grew up surrounded by the works of these masters, but the Optical and Kinetic artists Victor Vasarely, Bridget Riley, and Yaacov Agam influence his work most. “I am fascinated by how these artists combined geometric lines and shapes with colour to create the illusion of movement and play. I am captivated by how they play with the limits of the human eye's perception.”
By layering and fusing images, Rubinstein creates dynamic, three-dimensional works that change as the viewer moves. The painting changes depending on whether it is viewed from the right or the left. The frontal perspective is the combination of these two side perspectives.
Rubinstein has garnered International acclaim for his work, with his work being exhibited in leading galleries worldwide and held in many prestigious collections.
An Ode to the Masters' runs in our Dublin gallery from 21st March - 8th April. The official opening takes place on Thursday 21st March from 6-8pm, with a drinks reception courtesy of Hennessy.
