Patrick Rubinstein: Timeless Visions: Gormleys Belfast

12 - 30 April 2025
Overview
Gormleys is thrilled to present an exhibition by internationally renowned French contemporary artist Patrick Rubinstein, taking place in Gormleys Belfast from 12th - 30th April 2025.

'Timeless Visions' showcases a remarkable selection of Rubinstein’s latest works, inspired by some of history’s most beloved artists, including Henri Matisse, Gustav Klimt, Johannes Vermeer and Frida Kahlo.

Born in Paris in 1960, Rubinstein grew up immersed in the art world, frequently visiting iconic museums such as the Louvre and Musée d’Orsay.
However, it was the modern art displayed at the Pompidou Centre that truly sparked his passion to become an artist.
He was particularly drawn to Pop Art and the works of Optical and Kinetic artists like Victor Vasarely, Bridget Riley, and Yaacov Agam.

Rubinstein now combines these influences to create his own dynamic, three-dimensional artworks that shift as the viewer moves. Through layering and combining images, the artwork transforms based on perspective, changing when viewed from different angles.

“I am fascinated by how the optical and kinetic artists merged geometric lines, shapes, and colors to create the illusion of movement and visual play. I am captivated by how they challenge the limits of human perception."

‘Timeless Visions’ will be on display at Gormleys Belfast from 12th - 30th April

The official opening taking place on Saturday 12th April from 2-4 pm.
